Family Involvement Activity

Family Connection sessions are a FREE, parent-led gathering designed to encourage parents/caregivers to openly talk about the challenges they are facing while raising/caring for their children. For the purpose of the Leaders in ECE: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Collaborative Grant, we want to take this opportunity to bring families together within their community to learn more about diversity, equity and inclusion as it pertains to their child’s early childhood education program. In the Family Connection Session model, a family is defined as any adult who is providing care for a child(ren).

This is an opportunity for parents/caregivers to learn about your goals for early care and education professionals’ fun and supportive atmosphere. During each Family Connection Session, you will be sharing an overview of the DEI content that you have delivered to early education providers. Once you have shared the overview and summarized feedback you’ve received while working with program administrators and teachers, you will encourage families to share their experiences.

Anticipated outcomes for each Family Connection Session:

  • Each family can define what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean.
  • Each family gains an understanding of what steps their child’s early care and education program is doing to support diversity, equity, and inclusion with program policies and practices.
  • Each family has an opportunity to ask questions and share personal experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion with their child’s early care and education program.
  • Each facilitator will walk away with feedback that can be shared with each DEI Cohort for Month 5: Leaders in ECE: Family Connection Session Debrief.
